The basics

Is Dagric OS really free?

Yes. The free edition is a complete, private, hardened desktop — free forever, no strings, no account. Pro adds the creative, gaming, developer, and Windows-app suites for a one-time $39.

Why pay $39 when Mint, Ubuntu or Zorin are free?

You don't have to — the free edition of Dagric is itself a real, complete distro. Pro is for people who'd rather not assemble and harden a general distro themselves. It's one curated, tested, coherent product: the Dagric Hub, seven one-click Looks layouts, snapshot-rollback, GPG-signed releases, Windows-app support, a hand-picked open-source toolkit, and real human support — set up the way a careful friend would. The tools are open source; the $39 buys the craftsmanship and the time it saves. No disrespect to the other projects — Dagric is just a different trade.

Can I try it without installing anything?

Yes — every ISO is also a live system. Boot it from a USB stick and use the full desktop without touching your disk; install only when you're ready. The guide shows you how.

Will it run on my computer?

Any 64-bit PC from roughly 2012 onward with 4 GB of RAM (8 GB recommended) and 25–40 GB of disk. UEFI with Secure Boot and older BIOS machines both work. It runs beautifully on hardware Windows 10's end-of-support left behind.

Can I keep Windows and dual-boot?

Yes — choose Install alongside in the installer and pick how much space each system gets. At startup you choose which to boot.

Coming from Windows

Will my files and bookmarks come with me?

Yes — automatically. The Migration Assistant (in the Hub, on every edition) finds the Windows still on your PC and copies your Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, Desktop and Chrome/Edge/Firefox bookmarks into your new home. Windows is only ever read, never modified — you can boot back into it any time. NTFS and exFAT drives also mount out of the box, and documents open with matching Office-metric fonts so the layout holds.

Can I run Windows programs?

Many, yes — on Pro, via Bottles and Wine (one click from the Dagric Hub). Compatibility varies by app; for the rest, the web version in Firefox usually covers it. Steam games run through Proton with excellent results. And for the stubborn holdout, Pro ships Windows in a window — a full virtual-machine stack (UEFI + TPM 2.0, Windows 11-capable) so real Windows runs safely boxed inside Dagric, using Microsoft's own ISO.

Does streaming work — Netflix, Spotify, YouTube?

Yes, out of the box in Firefox, DRM included. Media codecs for local files are preinstalled too.

Will my printer and scanner work?

Almost certainly — modern driverless printing and scanning work out of the box, plus a huge driver library and Print-to-PDF. HP all-in-ones get one-click setup in the Hub.

Privacy & security

What data does Dagric OS collect?

None. There is no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting to us, no accounts, and no advertising ID. Nothing phones home — there's nothing to turn off. Details in the privacy policy.

How is it secure out of the box?

AppArmor confinement enforced, a hardened kernel configuration, a firewall that's on, silently-installing security updates, and GPG-signed releases. Run the built-in Security Checkup to see your hardening score anytime.

What if an update breaks something?

Dagric snapshots the system before updates. Reboot, pick Dagric snapshots in the boot menu, choose the moment before the update, and you're back — files intact.

Dagric OS Pro

Is Pro a subscription?

No. $39, once. No license server, no activation, no expiry. Install it on the machines you own, keep it forever, updates included.

How do I get Pro after paying?

Checkout finishes on your personal download page — bookmark it. The same link re-downloads anytime and resumes interrupted downloads. It's also linked from your Stripe receipt.

What if I buy Pro and don't like it?

Reply to your Stripe receipt within 14 days and we refund in full — no quiz, no hoops. Details in the terms.

Can I upgrade a free install to Pro?

The current path is installing the Pro ISO (keep your files on a separate partition or back them up). An in-place upgrade tool is on the roadmap.

The project

Is the software open source?

Yes — Dagric OS is built from open-source software on a Debian base, and we never bundle proprietary software. Optional extras (Steam, NVIDIA driver, DaVinci Resolve) install only when you ask. See licenses.

What am I paying for, if it's open source?

The work: curation, integration, hardening, testing, packaging, and support — turning thousands of parts into one finished, coherent product. The parts are free; the craftsmanship is what you buy.

How do I verify my download is genuine?

Every release ships SHA-256 checksums signed with our GPG key — the download page has the three files and the two commands.
